Eye of the Storm

Construction at the house has been a little crazy these past few weeks. A roadbump here, an obstacle there, and it all leaves us with little time to do much but meet with people, discuss solutions/issues, and research options. Yeah... we're busy. And the insanity continues as we have until the 10th of July (leave for Maine vacation) to make about 98% of the decisions left to be made for this project. Paint, fixtures, flooring, tilework, appliances... you name it, we need to decide and order ASAP. Good news is we have a jump on much of it... but it's still a lot to think about, particularly when everything depends on a decision made elsewhere.

In an effort to post pictures of some of the progress to date, I've added a hodgepodge of photos taken over the past week and a half. As of this moment, all windows are installed (door is MIA) and fabulous, framing is done, trades are about 95% done, and dry wall is set to begin by the end of next week. Also on the agenda for next week, siding? Not sure if we'll get to that, but the contractor is aiming for it.

Window on the south wall upstairs was in such bad shape (and, at about 30 years old, it was by far the newest window in the house), they had to reframe the casement.

Ahh... newly installed windows.

Pretty.

Framed powder room.

"True" 10x2 wood joists... without a doubt, older than anyone reading this post. Possibly older than the parents of anyone reading this post. Contractor explained that new joists are called "10x2s" but are actually 9 and a quarter inches. These are really neat... hand cut. Though you can't really see it in this picture, if you look closely you can see saw marks. You'll also notice that there's no subfloor... just heart pine on joist. Can't believe it lasts so long. Amazing.
