Note to self: When discussing an "open floor plan" with the contractor, be sure that you agree on the definition of the phrase.
This is the view from the door of our second bedroom upstairs... into our kitchen. Despite what it looks like, this was actually semi-planned. It turns out our original floor was so crooked and sloped at odd angles that it had to be taken up. So after talking to us first (thankfully), the contractor did just that, exposing the original beams and the kitchen.
In other news, most of the trades are complete or close to complete. Above is a view of our lovely new range top and hood fan (squint really hard and you can see it). Behind that is our new powder room.
